We partner with doctors, birthing centers, and hospitals to help bridge the gap between medical providers and unspoken mothers.
Support Services
Unspoken Motherhood Inc comes alongside mothers when they first receive the news their baby does not have a heartbeat. We partner with doctors, birthing centers, and hospitals to help bridge the gap between medical providers and unspoken mothers so both get the support they need in the first moments of grief and trauma.
Miscarriage
When a woman has a miscarriage, she often leaves her doctor’s office in shock and with a broken heart. While a nurse advocate is generally not on hand for that initial visit, a nurse advocate is available to accompany the unspoken mother on any follow-up appointment and advocate for post partum depression screening to be done by the doctor’s office.
Every mother who has a miscarriage will receive a miscarriage gift box from her medical provider with comfort items and gifts to help connect her with the loss mom community and help her feel less alone.
Stillbirth
When a mother finds out her baby does not have a heartbeat and she will need to deliver her baby, Unspoken Motherhood Inc is contacted by either the mother herself, her doctor, midwife, a nurse or nurse manager on the Labor and Delivery Unit, or even a friend with permission.
A Nurse Advocate will go to the hospital while the mother delivers*, help the mother and her family make memories with her baby, and connect the mother with a nonprofit to help with funeral arrangements or memorial services as needed.
Each mother will leave the hospital with a gift basket, which includes comfort items, pre-packaged snacks, a restaurant gift card and other gifts, and resources on support communities. They are available to accompany the unspoken mother to any follow up appointments, and advocate for post partum depression screening to be done by their medical provider.
Infant Loss
Our Nurse Advocates accompany the mother to any doctor appointments* in preparation for the birth of their infant with a terminal illness, go to the hospital when the mother delivers*, and help connect these families to nonprofits to help with funeral arrangements as needed.
Each mother will leave the hospital with a gift basket, which includes comfort items, pre-packaged snacks, a restaurant gift card and other gifts, and resources on support communities. They are available to accompany the unspoken mother to any follow-up appointments, and advocate for post partum depression screening to be done by their medical provider.
*Nurse Advocates from Unspoken Motherhood do not take the place of the nurses and other medical professionals in hospitals, doctor’s offices, and birthing centers. They provide emotional support and advocate for the mothers and their infants but do not provide physical care during delivery or for the mother.
Miscarriage Gift Box & Gift Baskets
The doctor’s offices we partner with are supplied with miscarriage boxes to give to mother’s when they first find out their baby does not have a heart beat.
These gift boxes include a tea towel, a bar of soap specifically designed for Unspoken Mothers, a bracelet specially designed for Unspoken Mothers, bookmarks, snacks, and information connecting them to the loss mom community.
Everything in the miscarriage gift boxes and the gift baskets was created by Unspoken Motherhood, another Loss Mom, or an organization who has partnered with us to support unspoken mothers.
When a Nurse Advocate goes to the hospital, doctor’s office, or birthing center to advocate for a specific Unspoken Mother, that Mother will receive a gift basket, which includes everything in the miscarriage gift box plus items like a restaurant gift card, more snacks, sanitary pads, an Unspoken Motherhood mug, and a willow tree figurine.

Everything in both the miscarriage gift box and the gift baskets was created either by Unspoken Motherhood, another Loss Mom, or an organization who has partnered with Unspoken Motherhood to support Unspoken Mothers.
The purpose of these gift boxes and baskets is to provide the Unspoken Mother with gifts she can go home with to help remind her she is not alone, and things that she can have that bring a positive association with as she remembers her baby.
Each gift box and gift basket are given free of charge to all medical providers. The items are purchased by Unspoken Motherhood, or are donated to Unspoken Motherhood specifically for these baskets.
